THE Hangzhou government cut its budget for official receptions by 54.7 percent this year amid a national campaign to reduce extravagance.

There is a noticeable drop in the 2014 budgets of the municipal finance, research and general offices, according to a report published on the government’s website.

The central government called for strict control of public spending on official receptions, overseas travel and government vehicles.

The General Office of Hangzhou government set this year’s budget at 128.21 million yuan (US$20.8 million), including 77.76 million yuan for services, 38.54 million yuan for equipment, 8.93 million yuan for pension and employment insurances, and 2.98 million yuan for health care. The budget for receptions, travel and cars was cut by 54.7 percent, 15 percent and 28 percent respectively.

The Hangzhou Finance Office has a nearly 8 million yuan budget, including 5.84 million yuan for services, 100,000 yuan for training and 255,700 yuan for health care. The sum for receptions, travel and cars was cut 35.5 percent to 187,800 yuan.

The budget for the Research Office is 9.13 million yuan, including 8.88 million yuan for services, 256,200 yuan for health care, 105,000 yuan for travel, 100,500 yuan for receptions and 50,000 yuan for cars.
