HANGZHOU’S consumer price index, a main gauge of inflation, grew 2.5 percent in June from a year earlier, the city’s statistics bureau said last week. It was down 0.1 percent compared with May.
A low comparative base and higher food costs from a year ago were attributed for the increase.
The prices of pork in June rose 1.8 percent compared with May. Air ticket prices increased an average of 7 percent last month from May due to the arrival of the summer holidays. Rents edged up 0.5 percent on average.
On the down side, river shrimp and crab prices dropped 14.5 percent from May, while the cost of vegetables and fruits decreased by 6.8 percent because of the abundant supply.
The cost of beer, shoes and clothes dropped 3.1, 0.7, and 0.2 percent respectively.
